About the mobile air compressors

In a down-the-hole operation the compressor is not an accessory — it sets the achievable penetration rate. A hammer starved of air at the correct pressure simply strikes slower. This range covers diesel-powered mobile screw compressors in single and two-stage configurations, sized by free air delivery and working pressure against the hammer and the hole diameter they have to support.

Typical applications

  • DTH drilling rigs — Primary air supply for surface and water well rigs, matched to hammer air consumption.
  • Quarry and mine support — Air for rigs, hand-held tools and cleaning on site.
  • Foundation and anchoring work — Air for anchoring rigs and for hole cleaning.
  • Pipeline and utility work — Trenchless and utility installation requiring mobile air.
  • Sandblasting and general site air — High-volume air where the compressor also has to be mobile.

How it works

A screw compressor traps air between two rotating rotors and squeezes it continuously, which is why it delivers a steady flow rather than the pulsed output of a piston machine. Single-stage units cover the common pressure band; two-stage units reach higher pressure at better efficiency, which matters for deep holes and large hammers where the pressure has to be held at the hammer.

  • Free air delivery and working pressure must both be met — a compressor rated for flow at low pressure may not hold pressure at the hammer.
  • Two-stage machines are worth the extra cost where the hammer needs high pressure at depth.
  • Engine emission standard decides where the machine can legally operate, so it is a selection criterion, not a detail.

How to specify the right model

Add up the hammer air consumption, add a margin for leakage and altitude, and check the pressure the hammer needs at the hammer. Then choose the compressor that delivers both simultaneously.

  • Do not select on free air delivery alone: check the pressure at which that flow is delivered.
  • Allow for hose length and couplings — pressure at the compressor outlet is always higher than at the hammer.
  • At altitude, derate the free air delivery; the specification figures are normally at sea level.
  • Check the emission standard against local site regulations before ordering.

Frequently Asked Questions

Single-stage or two-stage?

Two-stage compressors reach higher pressure more efficiently, which pays off on deep holes and large hammers. Single-stage units are the economical choice for standard pressure and moderate depth.

How much air does my hammer need?

Each hammer model lists its air consumption at its working pressure. Add a margin for hose losses and altitude, then choose a compressor that delivers that flow at that pressure.

Can the compressor run the rig and hand tools at once?

Only if the free air delivery covers both loads. In practice most operators size for the hammer and add a separate small machine for tools.

Is an aftercooler or water separator needed?

For DTH work, dry air matters: moisture in the air can reduce hammer performance and promote corrosion. Specify the air treatment you need at enquiry.

How do I choose between the 21 models in this range?

Start with the hole diameter and depth you need, then check the transport and site dimensions against the specification table. Every model in this range has its own detail page with the full datasheet; if two models look close, send us the job details and we will tell you which one we would quote.
