The KJ, KM, KS and KQ range covers the rock-drilling side of tunnelling and mining: hydraulic rigs for development and production holes, and machines for long-hole and specific in-stope work. The shared requirement across the range is that the rig has to fit the excavation it works in and hold hole direction over the depths the blast design specifies.
Typical applications
- Tunnel and drift development — Face holes in road, rail and water tunnels and mine development headings.
- Long-hole production drilling — Ring and fan patterns in underground stopes.
- Rock reinforcement — Bolt and cable holes around headings and chambers.
- Surface mining and quarrying — Production and pre-split holes where a compact rig is preferred.
How it works
Hydraulic rock drills deliver impact energy hydraulically rather than pneumatically, which is why they penetrate faster and use less energy per metre than an air driller of comparable size. The rig around the drill — boom, feed, carrier — determines where that energy can be applied and how quickly the rig can be repositioned.
- Impact power, rotation and feed are matched to the drill steel; mismatching them wears out steel and bit together.
- Bore hole diameter range in the table is set by the drill steel and bit series, not by the engine.
- Applicable drill pipe specification tells you which steel the rig can handle at full torque.
How to specify the right model
Define the hole pattern first — diameter, depth, direction and the number of holes per round. Then choose the rig that can drill that pattern with the fewest set-ups and the steel you already stock.
- Check the bore hole diameter range against the largest and smallest hole in the pattern.
- Confirm the applicable drill pipe specification so you are not forced into a proprietary steel.
- Match the rig width and height to the smallest drift on the tramming route.
- Ask about the recommended impactor and bit series for the rock you actually have.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I choose between the KJ, KM, KS and KQ families?
The families differ mainly in carrier size, boom configuration and the hole range they cover. Send us the drift section and the hole pattern and we will narrow it to one or two models rather than listing all of them.
Can the rig use third-party drill steel?
Yes, as long as the steel matches the shank and thread the drill accepts. The applicable drill pipe specification is listed per model.
Are these rigs available with electric drive?
Electric drive is available for underground work where ventilation capacity is limited. Confirm at enquiry because it changes the carrier specification.
How do I choose between the 20 models in this range?
Start with the hole diameter and depth you need, then the rock and the site. Not every model in this range has a published datasheet yet: where it does the specification table gives the numbers, and where it does not the configuration is quoted against your job. Send us the hole size, the depth and the ground conditions and we will come back with the model and the air package.
