About the FYDQ blast hole rigs

The FYDQ range covers crawler-mounted surface drilling rigs built around a hydraulic feed, a rotary head and a down-the-hole hammer driven by compressed air. They are sized for production blastholes, pre-split and buffer holes, and general rock excavation where a truck-mounted or hand-held rig cannot reach or cannot keep up.

Typical applications

  • Quarry production blastholes — Bench drilling in limestone, granite, basalt and sandstone where hole diameter and spacing are set by the blast design.
  • Open-pit mining — Ore and waste stripping holes, including buffered and pre-split patterns along final walls.
  • Road and railway cut slopes — Controlled blasting on alignment cuts where hole deviation and collar position matter more than raw penetration rate.
  • Foundation and utility excavation — Rock removal for building basements, pipe trenches and plant foundations inside built-up sites.
  • Dams, hydropower and irrigation works — Spillway, stilling basin and canal excavation, plus grouting and drainage hole patterns.

How it works

A down-the-hole hammer sits directly behind the bit, so the piston strikes the bit instead of travelling through the whole drill string. The rig only has to supply rotation, feed force and air — which is why these machines hold hole alignment well in hard, abrasive rock and why penetration rate stays steady as depth increases.

  • Compressed air does two jobs at once: it drives the piston and flushes cuttings out of the hole.
  • Feed force is set by the hydraulic cylinder, not by the operator hanging on the string, so bit load stays constant.
  • Rotation is slow and torque is high — typically a few tens of rpm — which keeps the string stable in fractured ground.

How to specify the right model

Three numbers decide the model: hole diameter, hole depth and rock hardness. Everything else — tramming ability, transport width, dust control — follows from where the rig has to work.

  • Match the hammer shank to the hole diameter first. The rig then has to carry that hammer plus its air demand.
  • Check the economical drilling depth in the specification table rather than the maximum — the maximum is a capability limit, the economical figure is what the air package can actually sustain.
  • For benched quarry work, confirm climbing ability and ground clearance against the haul road you actually have.
  • On confined urban sites, ask about dust collection and noise enclosure options before comparing prices.

Frequently Asked Questions

What rock hardness can these rigs drill?

The specification tables list an applicable rock hardness (f value) for each model. As a rule, down-the-hole rigs handle f=6 to f=20 comfortably; above that, penetration rate drops and hammer selection matters more than rig selection.

Can the rig run with a different hammer brand?

Yes, provided the shank type and air demand match. Send us the hammer model and we will confirm the air package and the bit shank adapter.

Do you supply the air compressor with the rig?

Compressors can be quoted together with the rig or separately. The required free air delivery and pressure are listed per model so you can also match an existing compressor.

How is the machine shipped?

Surface rigs ship in a single 40ft container where the transport dimensions allow it, otherwise on a flat rack. We confirm the exact loading plan against the transport dimensions in the specification table before booking.

How do I choose between the 41 models in this range?

Start with the hole diameter and depth you need, then the rock and the site. Not every model in this range has a published datasheet yet: where it does the specification table gives the numbers, and where it does not the configuration is quoted against your job. Send us the hole size, the depth and the ground conditions and we will come back with the model and the air package.
