About the anchoring drill rigs range
BN and QS rigs are built around a single requirement: putting a hole exactly where the support design says, at the angle the design says, in ground that is often already excavated and often unstable. They are used for anchor cables, soil nails, micro-piles and forepoling, with a rotary head sized for the casing and drill rod the job needs.
Where the QS-280 fits
QS-280 is one of the anchoring drill rigs configurations we build, specified at working pressure kPa, max torque N·m, power SDEC9DF. Multifunctional anchoring rig for foundation pits, slopes and tunnel forepoling.
Typical applications
- Foundation pit shoring — Anchor cables, soil nails and soldier pile anchors around deep excavations in urban sites.
- Slope stabilisation — Rock bolts, anchor cables and drainage holes on cut slopes and dam abutments.
- Tunnel forepoling and pipe roofing — Advance support ahead of the face in soft ground and shallow cover.
- Micro-piles and jet grouting holes — Small-diameter foundation elements where access is restricted.
- Soil nailing for permanent retaining walls — Grid patterns where angle and spacing tolerance are tight.
How it works
An anchoring rig is judged by its rotary head and its mast, not by its engine. The head has to deliver enough torque to rotate casing through collapsing ground, and the mast has to hold the design angle while the hole is drilled and the anchor is installed. That is why these machines are specified by torque, rotation speed and stroke rather than by hole diameter alone.
- High torque at low speed is what lets the rig rotate casing and auger through difficult strata.
- Mast articulation allows drilling above, below and beside the carrier without repositioning.
- Stroke length defines how long a rod section can be handled in one pass.
How to specify the right configuration
Take the anchor design first: hole diameter, anchor length, angle and the ground condition. The rig then has to deliver the torque and the stroke for that combination, inside whatever access the site allows.
- Match rotary head torque to the casing diameter — a head that stalls in the first metre costs more than a larger one.
- Check the maximum drilling height and depth reach against the tallest and deepest anchor on the drawing.
- Confirm the carrier width against the working platform; anchoring rigs often work on benches that are narrower than they look.
- Ask about simultaneous drilling and casing, which decides whether you need a duplex head.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can these rigs drill both soil and rock?
Yes. Soil and weathered rock are normally drilled with casing or auger; sound rock is drilled with a down-the-hole hammer. The rotary head and the air package are specified for the combination.
What is the maximum anchor angle?
The mast articulates to cover the angles used in typical shoring and slope work. Send us the design angles and we will confirm the reach rather than quoting a single figure.
Do you supply the drill rods and bits?
We supply matched rods, casing, bits and adapters for the rig, so the tooling and the head are compatible.
What is the price of the QS-280?
Price depends on configuration — the air package, the tooling included, and the shipping terms. Send us the hole diameter, depth and ground conditions and we will quote against your job rather than a list price.
