About the FYKY underground jumbos range

The FYKY range is built for work underground and in tunnels, where the constraint is not just hole diameter but the size of the drift. Low overall height, tight turning radius and a robust boom arrangement let the rig work in development headings and cross-cuts where a surface machine simply will not fit.

Where the KSQ31 fits

KSQ31 is one of the FYKY underground jumbos configurations we build, specified at hole diameter Ø90-125mm, weight 10000 kg, power YCF3675-T480. Surface DTH drilling rig · Øφ90-125mm holes.

Typical applications

  • Tunnel development headings — Face drilling in road, rail and water conveyance tunnels.
  • Mining development drifts — Ramp and level development in underground metalliferous and non-metallic mines.
  • Chambers and caverns — Widening and bench drilling in underground powerhouse and storage caverns.
  • Raise and shaft pre-drilling — Pattern drilling ahead of raise boring or shaft sinking.

How it works

Underground jumbos carry one or more hydraulic booms on a low, narrow carrier. The boom positions the drill independently of the carrier, so the rig can set up once and cover the whole face. Everything — height, width, boom reach, turning radius — is dictated by the drift profile the rig has to travel through.

  • Transport dimensions matter more underground than on surface: measure the smallest drift on the route before choosing a model.
  • Boom coverage determines how many set-ups a face needs, which drives cycle time more than penetration rate.
  • Electric motor drive is common underground because diesel exhaust has to be ventilated.

How to specify the right configuration

Work backwards from the drift section. The rig has to pass through the smallest opening on the way in, then cover the largest face you will drill.

  • Compare transport height and width against the tightest drift and any shaft or portal restrictions.
  • Check boom coverage against the face size so the number of set-ups stays practical.
  • Confirm whether the site requires electric drive, diesel, or dual power.
  • Ask about the drill steel and bit sizes available for the rock type on site.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum drift size for these rigs?

It depends on the model. The transport dimensions in the specification table give the height and width the rig needs to travel; allow additional clearance for steering and for ground unevenness.

Electric or diesel drive?

Underground operations usually prefer electric drive to reduce ventilation load. Diesel is used where the rig must tram between headings without a power connection. Dual-power configurations are available on request.

Can the rig drill in both development and production?

Development drilling and production drilling need different boom and feed arrangements. Tell us the split between the two and we will recommend a configuration rather than a bare model.

What is the price of the KSQ31?

Price depends on configuration — the air package, the tooling included, and the shipping terms. Send us the hole diameter, depth and ground conditions and we will quote against your job rather than a list price.
